Dr. Stephen A. Kanter Memorial Endowed Scholarship

The Dr. Stephen A. Kanter Memorial Endowed Scholarship, established in 2020, awards the meritorious work of students in Graphic Design who specialize in typography, letterpress fine printing, design history and/or book design.

The scholarship was created via the estate of Dr. Kanter who passed away in 2018. Dr. Kanter earned a degree from New York University School of Medicine in 1964 and has had a Radiology practice in Pasadena. He was a long-time donor to the HMCT and a friend of Professor Gloria Kondrup. In addition to Archetype Press, Dr. Kanter’s interest in ArtCenter is also related to his love of photography and photo books. Dr. Kanter was an active supporter of many other performing and visual arts organizations in Los Angeles as well including the LA Chamber Orchestra, LA Phil and the Armory, to name a few.
