Joe and Rosa Farrer Endowed Scholarship

Joe and Rosa Farrer Endowed Scholarship

The Joe and Rosa Farrer Endowed Scholarship supports continuing undergraduate students who demonstrate financial need and academic merit.

This scholarship honors Joe Farrer (BS 50 Product) who spent almost 50 years teaching at ArtCenter, and Rosa Farrer, who helped countless students through her work in student affairs for over 30 years. Joe was one of the College’s legendary faculty and a friend to many. He was the driving force of the model shop and taught thousands of students the craft of creating models and surfacing beautiful cars. To this day, many alumni carry the concept of “Joe Quality” in their daily lives. Rosa served ArtCenter in many roles including Director of Admission, International Student Advisor and Student Counselor. She established social and support groups through which students and their families could access resources and connect with one another. Many of these ArtCenter organizations continue to this day.

When Joe passed away in 2007, the Legacy Circle launched a scholarship initiative in honor of the Farrers. Rosa said “the Scholarship is a tribute that Joe would have acknowledged with a humble, grateful heart because it means that he can continue helping students”. The Scholarship was funded in part through the generous support of the Farrer family. The Joe and Rosa Farrer Endowed Scholarship is one way that alumni have been giving back to the College through the Legacy Circle.

The Legacy Circle is a scholarship fundraising group that was formed in 2006 with the goal of making an ArtCenter education accessible to the most promising students, regardless of their financial situation. The group was established by co-chairs Ramone Muñoz (BFA 77 Advertising and MFA 90 Fine Art) and Stan Kong (BS 83 Product) who are instructors at ArtCenter, with the goals of reconnecting alumni and helping current students successfully complete their educations.
