Michael K. Shinoda Endowed Scholarship

Michael K. Shinoda Endowed Scholarship

The Michael K. Shinoda Endowed Scholarship was established in 2004 by alumnus Mike Shinoda (ILL 08) to support entering students with financial need in the Graphic Design and Illustration departments.

While in college at ArtCenter, Mike started the band Linkin Park. Shinoda jokes, “I made money doing design so I could spend it doing music.” The band became one of the best selling artists in modern history, with 26 MTV music awards, 2 Grammys, 4 Echo awards, a UN Global Leadership Award, and dozens of others. They have sold over 100 million albums worldwide. Shinoda is the founder, producer, and primary songwriter.

Mike is also known for his close relationship with innovative entertainment technology though partnership, investment, and advisory roles with companies such as Spotify, Sonos, Robinhood, Mercedes Benz, Ledger, and Warner Music Group.

Shinoda received an honorary doctorate of humane letters from ArtCenter in 2009. He states: “The skills I acquired at ArtCenter have been invaluable to my work in illustration, graphic design and music. The educational experience was extremely demanding taking up every minute of y week. Without the lifeline of financial aid, many students would not be able to attend the College. That’s why I decided to start a scholarship to help talented and deserving students earn an ArtCenter Degree.”
